The Timor altDeer has been considered a highly vulnerable species in Indonesia.  Its population is continuously declining at an alarming rate and the productivity of deer farming in Indonesia is still low. However, studies show that productivity of deer farming under captivity is still attainable if certain farm management practices are done to address the behavioural stress among these species.

Dr. Daud Samsudewa (PhD animal science, UPLB 2012) disclosed these findings during the 4th International Conference on Environmental and Rural Development (ICERD) on 19 January 2013 at Siem Reap. Cambodia in his presentation entitled “Comparative Reproductive Behavior of α-Male, β-Male and Subordinate Male Timor Deer (Cervus timorensis Blainville) Raised under Captivity.”
